Laser Skin Rejuvenation

The Magic of Light

The use of light based treatments is central to modern cosmetic medicine and these are at the core of the ALIA Clinic practice. Dr. Goyen was one of the first doctors to use IPL (intense pulsed light ) in the world, and continues to do so. The clinic has access to a total of 6 laser and IPL treatments which can help in a huge variety of cosmetic problems. The list below lists most of these lasers and will give you an idea of the types of problem treated by each. Often light treatments can be combined with other surgical procedures to provide even better results.

An exciting, new development at the clinic has been the purchase of the Sciton BBL and in the same machine a dual pulse width Sciton Erbium:YAG laser and now the Sciton Pro-Fractional laser. The Pro-Fractional is similar to other fractional lasers and is designed to reduce acne scarring, treat irregular skin pigmentation and melasma, as well as sun damage and fine lines on the face. There is virtually no downtime with this treatment and, unlike other fractional laser systems, it can be performed with minimal or no discomfort.

BBL (Broad Band Light)

Intense pulsed light (IPL) marked the beginning of a revolution in skin care. While IPL is not a laser, it uses a number of frequencies of light to perform many tasks. The parameters of this light source can be almost infinitely varied to treat a variety of cosmetic skin problems. This ingenious device has been developed by the application of theoretical and practical knowledge of the skin and the blood vessels within the skin, a combination of science and experience, both of which are necessary to achieve good results. BBL or broad band light is a significant advance on the IPL machines of a few years ago. The Sciton BBL, with a specially cooled crystal tip can be adapted to treat many, many problems as listed in the table below. Call the surgery on 99061555 and speak to Jill St. James for information about your specific needs. The list of problems that this machine can treat includes....facial vessels ( broken capillaries over the face and nose ), sun spots and age spots, broken face capillaries, hair removal and leg veins.

BBL skin rejuvenation

Fotofacials are a newer type of IPL skin rejuvenation. Usually 4-5 treatments at intervals of 3-4 weeks, no downtime is needed. Fotofacials reduce overall redness and pigmentation as well as a specific reduction of larger vessels in the face.

Radiosurgery

Radiosurgery is an exciting addition to the clinic. It provides a simple, quick way of removing many lumps and bumps from the skin, without the need for suture. Wounds heal quickly and effectively.

Likewise, very small radiosurgery probes can be used to effectively eliminate those nagging small blood vessels on the nose and face. A local anaesthetic cream is applied for 30 minutes before the treatment to make this a painless procedure, and very cost effective compared to more expensive treatments.

Costs

$250-$600 depending on the problem treated ( Medicare rebate may apply)

Laser re-surfacing using the Derma K ( combined erbium and carbon dioxide laser )

The ability to reduce wrinkling on the face is one of the most important uses of cosmetic lasers in medicine in the new millennium. Modern lasers, such as the carbon dioxide and erbium lasers can remove many of the creases that come with age and sun exposure, leading to a dramatic reduction in the appearance of the age of the face.

Changes in pigmentation to the face, the so-called liver spots and pigment spots can also be dramatically improved with laser treatment, leaving the skin smoother.

Though there is a dramatic improvement in the appearance of the skin in the first few weeks after treatment, improvements in appearance can take place for up to six months after the procedure with increased thickness and quality of collagen in the lower layers of the skin.

Laser re-surfacing of the face can also improve some types of acne scarring as well as remove much of the irregular pigmentation that occurs over the face associated with ageing.

Looseness and deep wrinkling over the cheeks can be dramatically reduced using the DermaK while fine lines in the same areas as well as over the top and bottom lips can be substantially improved.

Costs

$3000 to $5500 for treatment of the full face, $1000-$1800 for smaller areas of the face ( smokers lines and around the eyes). A Micro Laser Peel can be performed using only local anaesthetic creams and requires 3 days off work, the cost is $1900.
